Duterte arrested for crimes against humanity due to his war on drugs – Now handed over to the ICC in The Hague
Rodrigo Duterte.

The former Philippines president, Rodrigo Duterte, has been arrested, accused of crimes against humanity committed during his “war on drugs” during the years 2016-2022.

Duterte was arrested at Manila’s international airport, detained and flown to The Hague, where he was placed in the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday, RT reports.

According to Duterte’s former chief presidential legal counsel and spokesperson, Salvador Panelo, the former president was “arrested without a warrant,” and taken to Villamor Air Base in the Philippines and “detained there illegally,” he told RT in an interview.

The Philippines has not been a member of the ICC since 2019.

Duterte is known for saying exactly what he wants, often with foul language, which made him world-famous during his time as president. Here is some of the more famous quotes by Duterte:

“Hitler massacred three million Jews. Now, there is three million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them.”

On one occasion he called former US president Barack Obama, “Son of a whore. I will curse you in the forum.”
